Flitton and Greenfield is a parish in the heart of
Bedfordshire comprising of the two small villages of Flitton
Greenfield. Flitton, anciently called Flitcham, is recorded in the 1851 census
and is most notably known as the home of the De Grey Mausoleum.
One of the largest grade one listed sepulchral chapels in the
Country, the De Grey Mausoleum contains seventeen monuments to the De Grey family who lived in nearby Wrest Park. This mausoleum is testament to the
importance that Flitton once had in the local area, with the now
much larger village of Silsoe once being part of the parish in the
hundred of FLITT.
